This “Beauty” is out of a series called the Twelve Apostels. The title gives reverence to the importance plants had and have for all life on earth. The way it is presented here gives tribute to the importance of every little plant on this planet, thus its placed on a little throne. So it looks as if is floating in front of the background.
Presentation: Each unique print has a handtorn paper edge and is mounted on acid free cardboard. They are guarded in a handbound corrugated cardboard box. Thus this is the perfect travel image. While it might be sitting on your bedside table, wishing you sweet dreams, you can take it with you when you travel and place it next to your hotel bed.
Technique: It is a sugar lift etching, where the plants where drawn with a Japanese brush and a sugar solution onto a degreased copper plate. The plate is covered with an acid free lacquer and then immersed in a hot water bath. Thus the sugar drawing dissolves and breaks away the lacquer. Now the plate can be placed in the acid bath where the acid bites in the marked areas. The copper plate is etched very deeply to create a deep groove. Here, the oil based ink is rubbed in and handprinted onto a fine acid free rag paper.
Each print is a unique handcrafted original, signed with a fine pencil.
